From 15 December 2014, additional controls will apply where alcohol is supplied to a minor in a private setting by a parent or guardian, or by a person authorised by a parent or guardian.
The new controls will help provide clarity around the standards that apply where parents or guardians decide to allow their children to consume alcohol. Under the new requirements, it will be an offence for a parent or guardian, or a person authorised by a parent or guardian, to supply alcohol to a minor unless it is consistent with the responsible supervision of that child.
The new requirements make it clear that the supply of alcohol to a minor who is intoxicated is not, in any circumstances, consistent with responsible supervision.
Significant penalties of up to $11,000 and/or 12 months imprisonment apply.
